The Missions

bhfw01.MIS
Dec 16th - Early morning recconaisance flight, in fowl weather, over the front line.

You and a wingman are expected to fly a complete circuit from your home base out along the local front, approaching Monchau, and back to base. Note that this is the only mission in the campaign which requires you to fly from take-off to landing - all other missions start in tbe air, and most don't demand that you return to base for succesful mission completion. Despite the weather... expect some company. A trio of intrepid P-38s are up and about, harrassing the northern flank of the German advance.

bhfw02.MIS
Dec 16th - Early afternoon CAS outside Monchau, target: US artillery.

With one wingman, attack American Artillery positions which are holding up the advance on Monchau. There are quite a number of enemy ground units about - watch out for M16 halftracks (better still, take them out first) and make sure you keep enough ammo up your sleeve to get all the artillery guns in the area. If you keep your eyes open, you may spot a flight of US P-47s, busy carrying out their own ground attack over ten miles away from your target area. Bother them only at your own peril...

bhfw03.MIS
Dec 17th - Early morning escort flight over Monchau.

Your flight of four FW190 are tasked with the safe keeping of a Ju-88, decked out with cameras, which is to make a low pass over Monchau for assesment of the enemy defences there. Enemy AA units are of some concern; more dangerous, however, is a flight of four P-47s on CAP in the area. All four P-47s must be destroyed and the Ju-88 must complete it's circuit and return to a safe WP for the mission to be a success.

bhfw04.MIS
Dec 17th - Early afternoon CAS in support of Monchau offensive, target: Allied armour of the British 6th Airborne.

The enemy is attempting to reinforce their position at Monchau by advancing elements of the 6th Airborne Division to the town; attack the British tanks to prevent this. Eight FW190 will participate in the attack this time; they will probably be needed. Two allied flights, one of four P-38s, the other of four P-47s, are also in the area, on their own ground-attack assignments. Winning this mission is a bit tricky - in addition to having to wipe out the armoured units of the 6th Airborne and all the enemy aircraft, the mission will be lost if too much damage is sustained by either the Lehr Panzer division or the 277th Volksgrenadiers.

bhfw05.MIS
Dec 19th - Morning CAS at Monchau, major assault on the town, target: Allied armour.

There are eighteen axis aircraft involved in this mission; eight FW190 on CAS against armour, another four FW190 on CAS against flak, and six Bf109s on CAP over the battlefield. There is plenty of air opposition to worry about - four Spitfires on CAP (not actually mission objectives, but a good idea to shoot them down if you value your own skull), then eight P-38s and eight P-47s, all on CAS missions, which must be destroyed to achieve success. On the ground, there are three seperate enemy divisions in the Monchau area; all three must be virtually eliminated. Further, this must all occur without any of the German divisions in the area suffering crippling losses. This is quite a difficult mission to win - though vistory is possible; enemy aircraft on ground attack are far the most serious threat and should be dealt with as quickly as possible. Once they are out of the way, bare in mind that you can order your wingmen to attack a specific target by hitting [ALT + 1] while you have the target selected.

bhfw06a.MIS
Dec 23rd - Morning CAP over Monchau - protecting the troops.

Eight FW190 fly a circuit about Monchau, which is now in friendly hands. During the course of this flight, you will have to deal with four P51s, four P47s and eight P38s.

bhfw06b.MIS
Dec 23rd - Morning CAP over Monchau - protecting the troops.

Eight FW190 fly a circuit over Monchau, which is still disputed territory... at least that's what your told. Allied aircraft attack your own airbase and you are recalled to defend your home. There are lots of aircraft in the air in this scenario - in additon to the eight FWs from Euskirchen, another eight FWs and four Bf109s have been scrambled from nearby fields. The enemy fields eight P47s and twelve P38s. The damage inflicted to the base at Euskirchen is sufficient to force your squadron to divert to Duren airfield for landing.

bhfw07a.MIS
Dec 23rd - Midday scramble and intercept.

Twelve FW190 are scrambled from Euskirchen to intercept a large incoming formation of B17s at 20 000 ft. Additional support is in the air - a further four FWs and eight Bf109s from Duren. There are sixteen B17s in the enemy bomber stream, escorted by twelve P51s. By the time your flight arrives, the P51s should be busy with the fighters from Duren, giving your squads a clear shot at the bombers. You must bring down at least twelve of the B17s to achieve mission success.

bhfw07b.MIS
Dec 23rd - Midday scramble and intercept.

Scramble from the temporary base at Duren. Total Luftwaffe numbers are twelve FW190 and fourteen Bf109s. There are sixteen American B17s, at 20 000 ft, with an escort of twelve P51s. At least 12 B17s must be destroyed to achieve mission success.

bhfw08a.MIS
Dec 24th - Early morning CAP over St Vith.

Eight Euskirchen FW190s, together with eight Duren Bf109s, fly a CAP over axis troops massing at St Vith. Resistance is encountered in the form of six Spitfires, eight P38s and - finally - eight B24s that come in to carpet-bomb a German division. All of the P38s and B24s must be destroyed.

bhfw08b.MIS
Dec 24th - Morning CAS, Malmedy to St Vith, in support of the 3rd Panzer Division; target: Allied armour.

American forces from the Malmedy area are counterattacking towards St Vith. Your eight FW190s, out of Duren, are tasked with attacking the enemy tanks and keeping the 3rd Panzer Division from being decimated. Six Bf109s, also from Duren, will fly CAP over the area - and a further six Bf109s will also be about. The enemy has four P51s, eight P38s and eight P47s in the area. All P47s and P38s must be destroyed, along with at least eight allied armoured vehicles - all without the 3rd Panzer division being reduced to 40% or less strength.

bhfw09a.MIS
Dec 24th - Midday intercept.

With clear weather today, another B17 raid has been - correctly - anticpated by high command. A total of twenty-four FW190 and sixteen Bf109 are up and waiting when the bombers arrive. The bomber stream consists of twenty-four B17s and sixteen P51 escorts. All twenty-four enemy bombers must be shot down to achieve mission success.

bhfw09b.MIS
Dec 24th - Early morning CAP over St Vith.

With clear weather today, another B17 raid has been - correctly - anticpated by high command. A total of twenty FW190 and twelve Bf109 are up and waiting when the bombers arrive. The bomber stream consists of twenty-four B17s (two flights of twelve) and sixteen P51 escorts. At least eight of the B17s from each flight of twelve must be shot down to achieve success.

bhfw10a.MIS
Dec 24th - Evening escort mission to St Vith.

Six FW190 must escort a flight of Ju-88s through a night-time mission to drop bombs on St Vith. The bombers must complete their mission and return to safety without loss; your flight must return to base with no more than 50% losses. Four P38s will show up to make your life difficult - keep them away from the bombers! At about the same time that the Ju88s are releasing their ordanance, a flight of B26s is in fact attacking your home airfield at Euskirchen. The severe resulting damage will be visible when you make it back to base.

bhfw10b.MIS
Dec 25th - Morning CAS at Malmedy (weather very poor).

This is a last-ditch effort to overthrow allied resistance at Malmedy. Eight FW190s, supported by four Bf109s, must attack and virtually wipe out two allied divisions - and must do so without the German divisions in the area being smashed. The 109s will fly a patrol circuit about the area before turning their attention to miscelaneous ground targets. Proceedings will no doubt be complicated by the arrival of a CAP of eight Spitfires out of the fog...

bhfw11a.MIS
Dec 27th - Morning CAP over Bastogne.

Your squadron has relocated to Bitburg, due to the damage inflicted on the Euskirchen field on the night of the 24th. Eight FW190 and eight Bf109 will fly a CAP over Bastogne - our armies stand poised to attack the allied garrison there; keeping them safe from enemy air attack is your job this morning. Eight P51, eight P47 and eight P38 are about; all must be destroyed.

bhfw11b.MIS
Dec 27th - Morning CAS at Houffalize.

Your squadron has relocated to Bitburg, due to the damage inflicted on the Euskirchen field on the night of the 24th. Sixteen FW190 will attack enemy armour this morning - the Americans must be prevented from further reinforcing their position at Bastogne. To achieve success, the 3rd Armoured Division and the 29th Armoured Brigade must both be shattered, and crippling damage to either of the two Volksgrenadier divisions must be avoided. Enemy air activity consists of a strong CAP, twelve Spitfires, and four P38s on ground attack. All four P38s must be destroyed.

bhfw11c.MIS
Dec 27th - Mid-morning CAS at Monchau.

Sixteen FW190 must attack allied armour which is attempting an encirclment manouver against our troops at Monchau. Eight P51s are on CAP in the area; twelve P38s aree carrying out ground attacks. Mission success requires wiping out the P38s and shattering the allied armour.

bhfw11d.MIS
Dec 29th - Dawn strike at Verviers; target: Bridge.

Four FW190, escorted by four Bf109, must take out a bridge at Verviers to prevent encirclement of Axis ground units. An additional four FW190 are in the area on buisiness of their own - which is just as well, as there are four Spitfires, eight P51s and four P47s in the vicinity of the target region. Mission success requires the destruction of the bridge - and also that you manage to return to base.

bhfw12a.MIS

bhfw12d.MIS
Jan 1st - Bodenplate (strike against enemy airfield at Aachen).

Sixteen FW190s attack the airfield at Aachen with an assortment of bombs and gunpods. There are many enemy aircraft in the area - a total of eight Spitfires, twelve P51s, eight P38s and four B24s - though many of these planes will be caught on the ground when your attack force arrives. Success requires the destruction of all the P38s, P51s and B24s - and also requires making it safely to waypoint F, clear of the target area.

bhfwsp.MIS
Date variable - Special intercept out of Koln.

Goering is about to recall all FW190 and Bf109 squadrons from the Ardennes region to bases deeper within Germany - there to be relegated almost exclusively to the task of intercepting the allied strategic bomber streams. You sieze the initiative and take the single, experimental Me262 jet fighter that is at Koln airfield up to intercept, solo, a homebound stream of B17s. Your hope is that if you can use the speed of the jet to get past the allied escort fighters, shoot down at least two of the B17s and make it back to base in one piece - Goering may be convinced that the jets are in fact the best aircraft for the interceptor role, and the FWs and 109s may be allowed to stay where they are. Mission success requires the destruction of at least two B17s (there are eleven in the formation, along with seven P51 escorts), and your safe return to WP 4.
